Kasey Carrel is an instructor at The Six Studio: the Seattle-based musically-driven yoga and HITT studio (which is actually hosting virtual classes right now). In one of the funniest interviews yet, Kasey shares a date gone wrong, insight on 'apology languages', and the one Instagram challenge she will not do.

1. What is your life motto right now?

Be present - live each day as it comes. Be open to anything and anyone that may come your way.

2. What's your most-played song within the past week? Why?

I have two:

“Between Us” by dvsn and Snoh Aalegra

“Lights Out” by Sonn and Ayelle

I listen to music that match my feelings. I’m a little lonely whilst quarantined so…a lot of my music is ummm, let’s just say, slow jams.

3. Your Top Three Books of All Time:

Full Catastrophe Living by John Kabat-Zinn

Gut: The Inside Story of Our Body’s Most Underrated Organ by: Giulia Enders

Pride & Prejudice by: Jane Austen

4. Your Approach to Health in One Sentence:

Listen to your body, it knows you best!

5. Your Approach to Happiness in One Sentence:

Do what you love and surround yourself with positive people!

6. Your Approach to Dating in One Sentence:

Hope someone comes into your life, find that poor soul who could be a good contender. Make a bunch of playlists directed his way. Pine after him for a while, maybe go out on a few dates and then eventually realize you like being alone. Repeat the process.

7. Funny / most cringe date:

I have too many weird dates…I went out with a guy, let’s call him kidney guy...He was A LOT. We met for dinner and initially, he seemed like a relatively normal dude. Then he started to talk…He talked a mile-a-minute about anything and everything - from his crow friends to his Etsy shop plan with said crows, to Wikipedia edits, and Halloween costumes. At one point he told me he donated his kidney to his sister which is great, but then he whipped out his phone to show me a picture of said kidney. Then he shows me his scars from the surgery in the restaurant for all of the public to see. At the time I was not good at ending dates soo I went to his apartment (bad move I know) and then we started making out (yes I KNOW what the hell was I thinking)…he stops midway and asks if I want to see the video of his kidney surgery….yes I did watch the video and no I did not go out with him again.

8. Most used word:

I say “how dare” too often

9. Last screenshot:

These are my apology language results. As you can see I like when people accept responsibility for their actions and not those who beg for forgiveness.

My friend and I were talking about relationships which led us into the love language topic and eventually to the apology language test.

10. What are 1-3 things you do when you feel blue to make yourself feel better? / or feel like you’re having an off day?

  • Moving my body! Long runs and yoga have been my saving grace in this quarantine

  • Listen to music that gets me in my feels - Sabrina Claudio, Snoh Aalegra, and Sinead Harnett are my go-to gals at the moment

  • Facetime a friend

11. Insert most used emoji:

Don't take yourself so seriously!

12. Most inspiring quote:

“You matter in this space, right here, as you are” - Morgan Harper Nichols

13. What was the last thing that made you laugh?

Ina Garten’s cocktail hour IGTV video. It’s a big mood. Ina Garten is a classy queen, my spirit animal, who I aspire to be when I cook.

14. Who’s someone who you can rely on to always make you smile? Why/what do they do?

My sister! She’s my best friend, my Irish twin, she just knows how to put people in a good mood. She missed her calling as a comedian.

15. Best advice you’ve ever gotten:

Don’t take yourself so seriously!

16. Someone/something that changed your life (for the better):

The Six studio - the owners (shout out Karen and Saman), the staff, the community, the energy, the workouts, the music! I took the Six’s teacher training program this last year which helped me dive deeper into myself. I was able to find my voice, gain confidence, learn self-love, and share my passion for life through movement. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been and can’t thank the Six enough for helping me get here.

17. Most overrated advice / trend right now (in your opinion):

Those damn Instagram challenges...No Barb I will not do 10 crappy push ups on camera.

18. Something you feel like saying:

You are all amazing and beautiful! Shine your light in this world. You deserve to be seen!

19. Fave website / youtube video / link online at the moment:

Harry Styles Tiny Desk concert. I was never a One Direction/Harry Styles fan, but this set changed my mind. I’m hooked.
