A DAY IN THE LIFE

2020 is not the year anyone was expecting. For those who may have already been going through life changes and trying to develop/create a routine, COVID-19 threw that out the window.

Cue — let's share how we're getting through this together: quarantine routines.

First up: Micah Carroll. Micah encapsulates the definition of a conscious, driven, yet zen product designer. Ex-Amazon, currently at Teikametrics, and based in Boston, he runs the slack group Support Your Friends and his own design-driven YouTube channel.

He takes us through his quarantine routine:

What's the first thing you do when you wake up?

One of the first things I always do is hug my significant other.

What's a day in your life look like?

  • 07:00 - Wake up and complete morning routine.

  • 08:30 - Warm beverage and journaling.

  • 10:00 - Work standup meeting.

  • 11:00 - Focus period (typically stopping at lunch and continuing afterwards).

  • 14:30 - Another Focus Period

  • 15:00 - Social engagement on Instagram / social medias.

  • 17:30 - Have dinner and then begin 2 hours of creative “creating” (side projects).

  • 21:00 - Playing video games or still creating.

What's your morning routine?

  • Brush teeth.

  • Skincare.

  • Meditation.

What keeps you motivated on days you don’t feel like following your routine?

Whenever I feel unmotivated I reference back the list of goals I have for myself in 6 years and I bring it back to what’s one thing I can do today to help bring myself closer to those goals. I’m always attempting to get at least one thing done rather than none.

Coffee or tea?

Coffee, pour overs are my favorite.

What's the last pep talk you received or gave to someone?

The last pep talk I gave was to my significant other, she was a little frustrated about her current job situation.

"Whenever I feel unmotivated I reference back the list of goals I have for myself in 6 years and I bring it back to what’s one thing I can do today to help bring myself closer to those goals. I’m always attempting to get at least one thing done rather than none."

What are some resources that are keeping you grounded during this time?

  • Healing Mantras.. I love just closing my eyes and being there with them –– specifically Jhene Aiko’s mantra is beautifully done.

  • Matt D’ Avella’s youtube channel is full of humor, realistic life tips, and beautiful cinematography.

  • Lastly being able to still create content — doing youtube tutorials, being creative is just good fun.

What’s your evening routine look like?

  • Always having dinner with my significant other; face to face conversations or watching something together mindfully.

  • Then doing research on something that I’m looking to build currently (or designing an Instagram post)

  • Lastly playing video games or just enjoying something un-related to design.

Are you a meal planner? If so, please share your go-to recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner right now OR just your favorite dish at the moment.

My favorite dish lately has been pasta with taco seasoning (there’s a few other recipes in this video

Finally, please think of someone you would like to give a compliment to and share it below. (Tag their IG handle if possible.)

  • This may seem a little bias but I would have to say my girlfriend, she’s been working pretty hard at stepping into the copywriter realm and I thought she could use a shoutout:
